The county clerk is a constitutional officer who is elected for a four year term. In addition to issuing license plate registrations, the county clerk issues business licenses, marriage licenses, county beer permits, notary public at large commissions and passports. The county clerk also handles conservatorships, guardianships and the probating of estates (wills). As clerk of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners, the County Clerk also keeps official minutes and records of the activities of the commission and the Rutherford County Beer Board

Forms of Acceptable Payment
The Rutherford County Clerk's Office accepts cash and checks drawn on Tennessee Banks only. No out of state checks accepted. Checks should be made payable to Rutherford County Clerk and should include your phone number.
Debit and credit cards are accepted. A 2.25% +.25 convenience fee will be charged on all credit and debit card transactions. This fee is collected by a third party processor. Rutherford County does not receive any part of this fee.
